Origin of the Charter of the Villages
In 1999 Wijk was Cultural village of Europe. It found the cooperation of 10 other European villages. The result of this cooperation is a Charter that solemny has been signed by all eleven European villages on the 13th of december.
These eleven villages now are looking for other villages that want to sign it as well. The aim is to have 500 signotaries at the end of the year 2001.
