Origin of the Charter of the Villages
In 1999 Wijk was Cultural village of Europe. It found the cooperation of 10 other European villages. The result of this cooperation is a Charter that solemny has been signed by all eleven European villages on the 13th of december.
These eleven villages now are looking for other villages that want to sign it as well.The aim is to have 500 signotaries at the end of the year 2001.

Who can sign the Charter?
Any municipality or other local authority that represents a village.
How to get a signatory of the Charter of the Villages?
Send a letter with the letterhead of the village to the administratin of the Charter c/o Julianaweg 35, 1949 AN, Wijk aan Zee with the following content:
1. The confirmation that the signatory knows the Charter of the villages of the 10th of december 1999.
2. For what village/ town the signature is meant. (there is no restriction, if the municipality of Paris wants to sign, they are welcome to do it.)
3. Name, address and function of the person(s) who sign.
4. After arrival of this letter, the administration sends a confirmation.
