Paxos
Cultural Village of Europe 2004
Greece
The Greek isle counts 4 villages with 2500 inhabitants. It is a green isle, covered with 250.000 old and young olive trees.
Paxos was colonised by Italy and never by Turky. It belongs to the Ionian Islands on the western coast of Greece near Corfu and Albania.
Paxos does not have rivers and wells. The only water they have is the rain. Since a couple of years tourism is the most important part of their living.
In summer the inhabitants get tired of a lot of tourists. In winter they retire and make music and theatre themselves. In spring they are ready again to receive a lot of guests.
To Paxos belongs a smaller isle Anti-Paxos where the villagers have their vineyard.
