Aldeburgh was the Cultural Village of the year.
On 19-21 July, they came together in Aldeburgh and spend the weekend turning their material into one big digital artwork. In creating the artwork together, they learned about the cultures of their European neighbours and explored what it means to grow up in a village in the 21st century. The artwork used Internet technology so that friends back home will be able to access it.
From the 25th to the 27th April, village mayors and senior representatives discussed in Aldeburgh in several contributions about the impact of tourism on villages and small communities: Aldeburgh, Paxos, Porrúa, Palkonya, Wijk aan Zee, Ströbeck, Mellionnec, Pergine Valdarno, Bystré, Kirchheim, Tommerup.
During the weekend of 19-21 September, Aldeburgh and surrounding villages hosted several hundred visitors from throughout Europe. There were tours of local attractions; dinners prepared using with local food and plenty of cultural exchange.
The highlight of the weekend was Saturday in Snape where all villages had a contribution in music or theatre on the stage of Snape Maltings Concert Hall. It was a 6 hours lasting performance.
