A week for painters from thursday 11 till monday 22 May 2006.

The theme for this year is "Travelling".

Wijk aan Zee is located along the North Sea. In this part of the coast human livelihood and sea have long been closely related, for better and for worse.. Until 1850 there was only fishing, wrecking and rabbit hunting. Later on the steel works were built and consequently activities in the port increased.
The construction of the North See Canal stimulated the development of recreation and tourism, involving man and sea yet again.

The palpable tension between civilised man and sea has been a source of inspiration for many an artist . We also adressed this theme during the last ten years:

• We edited a book with poems and texts and a CD with songs 
• In 1999 11 sculptors made sculptures on the theme "Sea Of Steel". 
• In 2000 sculptors made beach huts at the beach 
• Since 2002 we organize ‘Easels And Brushes’ for painters.

This year again there will be an Art Sale on Sunday 21th of May, where the paintings will be for sale.

A panel of judges will award three prizes of € 750, € 300 and € 200 respectively.

Programme

Thursday May 11, 18.00 h: Welcoming of the participants and dinner.
Monday May 15, 22.00 h: Poets On The Sea; an experience on the beach.
Friday May 19: Judging and prize awards.
Friday – Saturday: Exhibition of the works in Wijk aan Zee.
Sunday May 21: Art Sale and conclusive dinner.
